Bangladesh: Mother Tongue Day

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Bangladesh, in collaboration with the United Nations Information Service in Vienna, was observing the International Language Day, which took place in the Rotunda of the VIC.

The International Mother Tongue Day was proclaimed by the UNESCO in 1999 to promote awareness of language and cultural diversity alongside multilingualism around the world.

The event commemorates an important point in the history of Bangladesh, when national martyrs sacrificed their lives on February 21, 1952 in Dhaka for the recognition of Bangla as national language.
