On 27th June 2026, 36 Maltese cyclists arrived in Vienna to embark on a demanding 1,100-km cycling challenge through Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria raising funds for cancer research. They were welcomed at the Vienna International Airport by representatives of the Embassy and the Malta Tourism Authority, who presented them with the Maltese flag which they will proudly carry throughout the challenge. This initiative was organized by the ALIVE Charity Foundation, Malta’s first cancer research fundraising organisation, and brought together Maltese volunteers sharing one common goal: support scientific research to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment. Since its establishment in 2013, the ALIVE Foundation has raised more than €1.1 million for cancer research projects conducted through the University of Malta. As a centre for scientific excellence and medical innovation, Vienna reflects the values that drive the ALIVE mission: solidarity and cooperation to contribute to international breakthroughs in cancer research. The initiative also brings together communities across Europe uniting them around the shared cause of advancing cancer knowledge and improving the lives of patients and their families. The Embassy of Malta in Austria has proudly supported this initiative. Cyclists were welcomed at the finish line on Friday, 3rd July at the Hilton Waterfront Hotel in Vienna, thanks to the generous support of Xjenza Malta and the in-kind support of Twistees and Malta Tourism Authority.
